Frequently Asked Questions

Does MedXpiryTracker require an account or sign-in?
No. The app works immediately after install with no account, sign-in, or internet connection required.
Does the app need an internet connection?
No. All features work fully offline, and all your data stays on your device.
How do I add a medicine?
Open the app and fill in the medicine name and dates. You can scan the label with your camera, or enter the details manually using the date picker. Optionally, tap Add photo to attach a photo of the label — taken with your camera or chosen from your photo library. Tap Save medicine when you're done.
How do I scan a medicine name or date?
Tap the Scan button next to the name field, or the Scan button in the date row. Point the camera at the label and tap the recognised text you want. For names, you can tap individual words to build a multi-word name. For dates, tap the correct detected date and press Capture. Use the torch button if the print is hard to read.
How do expiry reminders work?
MedXpiryTracker uses local notifications to remind you before a medicine expires. You choose how far in advance — from 1 day up to 2 months before the expiry date — when adding or editing a medicine. No data leaves your device to trigger these reminders.
Can I change the reminder lead time after saving?
Yes. Open Saved medicines, swipe left on any medicine, and tap Edit. You can change the reminder lead time from there. The notification is rescheduled immediately.
How do I attach a photo to a medicine?
When adding a new medicine, tap Add photo to take a photo with your camera or choose one from your library. The photo is stored privately in the app — it is not saved to your system photo library and is never uploaded anywhere. To attach a photo to a medicine you have already saved, open Saved medicines and tap the photo icon on any non-expired medicine row.
Where are attached photos stored? Are they in my Camera Roll?
No. Photos are stored only in the app's private encrypted storage on your device — the same place as your medicine records. They do not appear in your Photos app, and they are deleted automatically when you delete the medicine they belong to.
Why can't I attach a photo to an expired medicine?
The photo attachment option is only shown for medicines that have not yet expired. Expired medicines are kept in your history for reference, and you can still view any photo attached before they expired.
How do the Saved Medicines filters work?
The Saved medicines list has three filters: All shows every medicine; Expiring shows medicines that expire within the next 60 days (but haven't expired yet); Expired shows medicines whose expiry date has already passed. The default view shows Expiring, so your most time-sensitive items are front and centre.
The app won't let me save a medicine I already have. Why?
MedXpiryTracker prevents saving a duplicate — a medicine with the same name and the same manufacturing and expiry dates as one already in your list. If you have a new box of the same medicine with different dates, it will save fine as a separate entry.
Is my data backed up anywhere?
Your medicine records are not automatically backed up to iCloud or any server. You can export a backup file manually using the Export data button and save it to Files, or AirDrop it to another device. Note: attached photos are not included in the export — they are device-local and cannot be transferred or restored from a backup. See our Privacy Policy for details.
I found a bug or have a feature request.
Please email us with as much detail as possible, including your device model, iOS version, and steps to reproduce the issue.
